It's been a while since I last blogged about something cute! I opened my old Blogger account a few weeks ago and realised that I used to blog about every cute thing I could get my hands on, so let's just say this post is me fulfilling the "cute" part of my blog.
Here in the Philippines, it's common for parents to have their daughters' ears pierced at a fairly young age, sometimes even just months after their birth. The piercings are often done by their paediatrician with a piercing gun, the pain short-lived, but the earrings have to stay in place for quite a while. There are specialty earrings used for first-time piercings, usually stud-type hypoallergenic earrings with a single gem, and they're fashioned so as to prevent the accessories from being easily unfastened.
I can't recall when my ears were first pierced, but it's likely months after I was born as well. I didn't get my second pair of piercings until I turned 23, just a few days after Christmas. Since then, my darling little earring collection grew so extensively that I had to buy at least three box organisers so that I could store them neatly. I had my ears pierced for the third time last year, and I recall asking my dad for assistance when it was time for me to remove the earrings.
I'll answer some piercing questions after this, so let's jump into my favourite earrings. I'll only be showing my favourite pairs because I could talk about each and every single one of the whole collection, which would take us forever and a half to finish.
— Pearl studs
This is a family heirloom or something. It belonged to my mother before and it came with a ring and a pendant. I often use this whenever I'm reading at church, so it's pretty much my standard "serving at church" accessory.
— Daisy studs + Gold hoops
These two were part of an earring set from Avon, but I can't recall which one anymore. I often use them as accent earrings or the ones that go on my second and third piercings, with the first one being my "main" pair of earrings.
— Pearl hearts
This was one of the very first things I bought for myself when I started working, so it holds a lot of sentimental value. I often wear this pair when I'm dressing up cute for work or times when I have to meet my parents after my shift— just because I like making a statement. They are rather weighty, though, and I tend to remove them when I'm on public transportation because I'm scared they might fall off or get yanked off along with my whole ear.

— Gold hearts
I nabbed this pair back from when the little bazaar still existed in St Francis Square (for P100 good times lol). My to-go pair when I want to look both cute and elegant. I usually pair them with gold studs as accents.
— Lolly hearts
This was one of the cutest pairs of earrings being sold on @dollymoon.ph (also one of its bestsellers, I believe) and as a sweets person, you know ya sis can't say no to stuff like this. I can't count how many compliments I receive whenever I wear them, so they're really just that eye-catching.

— Moon system drop earrings
While I have yet to wear this pair, I can imagine this would be nice to wear for an evening date, just because it has the moon and stars on it. Anyone willing to take me out on an evening date can send me a message lol.
— Crystal drop earrings
There's just something I find very elegant about clear crystal earrings. Must be because they remind me of chandeliers in ballrooms and dance halls.
— Star drop earrings
While I don't really wanna discuss the origin of this specific piece of jewellery, I'd still like to acknowledge that this came from someone who used to be important to me. Yes, gifts are gifts and it wouldn't be so nice of me to throw it out just because we didn't work out, yeah? Same as the crystal drop earrings, I find this a very elegant pair and often wear them when we went out on dates.
Not sure if you can still find these in Forever 21!
— Heart drop earrings
I got this pair from one of those little kiosks in bazaars selling buy one take one earrings for a cheap price. It has a simple yet elegant look to it and I find it easy to pair with anything.
— Kaleidoscope dangling earrings from the province
Before the pandemic struck, our dad used to go on a lot of out of town trips— weekly, if I recall correctly. This was a present from him during one of those said trips. I love the summery and flowery vibe it gives to my outfits and I wore them a lot during my summer vacation last year.
— Antique blue diamond drop earrings + Colourful jewel flower drop earrings
You should know by now that I am a sucker for costume jewellery. As a royalty buff, exaggerated jewellery is just my thing, and I'm glad the people in my life understand that.
Note: Apparently these pairs aren't in Shopee anymore. :( Looks like they're sold out or something.
— Purple hearts drop earrings
I've come to the conclusion that I might be a magpie with my undeniable attraction to shiny things. This is costume jewellery I will not hesitate to wear out on a date. I like making a lasting impression and believe me when I say the people you meet will remember what you were wearing more than what you talked about.
— Strawberry hoops
A must-have for a strawberry girl like me.
— Boa Hancock's earrings
Totally not for cosplay purposes lol. These are clip-on earrings and can be worn by those without piercings!
Q and A
Q: Where did you get your ears pierced?
A: I got my second and third piercings done in Silverworks at SM Megamall. The piercings and earrings cost around P250 (around $5 USD) and you'll have to sign a little waiver as well.
Q: Will they hurt?
A: The process is quick but isn't entirely painless. The attendant will draw dots on your earlobes and you'll have to check if it's in the right place for you to have the piercing. You won't feel the pain once the gun's been shot and you'll mostly feel the searing effects afterwards. In my case, it didn't hurt so much that it affected my daily life, but it could be different for others.
Q: How long before you can change your earrings?
A: Six weeks to a month, at least. But it could be longer if you're unsure. I waited for at least a month before I changed into a new pair and even asked my dad to help me remove the first pair because, I am telling you, they are tough to take off.
Q: How did you care for your new piercings?
A: They'll hurt for at least a few days and you'll probably see a lot of redness and swelling as well. It's recommended that you clean your earlobes with a cotton ball and baby oil. It always works like a charm.
Q: My ears itch a lot when I wear x kinds of earrings. Is something wrong?
A: You're probably sensitive to fake jewellery and I don't recommend keeping this up. Get your accessories from a trusted jewellery shop. I don't really know any ways in which fake or costume jewellery can be sterilised so people with sensitive ears can wear them.
Q: How do you accessorize yourself when you go out, especially since you have three piercings?
A: I usually pick out a "main pair" of earrings to work around with, usually a drop pair, big hoops or big studs, then select two "simpler" pairs such as pearl or gemstone studs as accents. When wearing drop earrings or big earrings, I don't wear anything around my neck so they don't draw the attention away from whatever accessory is framing my face.
Q: Is there a possibility that the piercing can close after being left without earrings for a while?
A: I've had instances where I thought my piercings closed, but it's usually just a very thin topmost layer of skin that healed the hole. I opened it back up using a sterilised pin and baby oil and didn't really bleed seeing as I just nicked off a small part of the skin. I highly recommend wearing a pair of earrings that don't distract you too much from what you do or if you're just at home to prevent the piercings from closing.
Q: Will you get more piercings?
A: That's the question lol. I haven't given any thought of having another one since most of my lobes are already pierced. I am considering getting a helix piercing on my right ear if ever!
All this talk of earrings makes me want to get more, but we'll have to wait for better days before getting a new pair, self! Do you have any unique jewellery pieces? Tell me about them!
Love forever and in continuous pursuit of more earrings,
Tony
I thought about doing this too but I don't know how long before I finish writing it since I have a lot of earrings I'd like to share lmao. I love this post, bruh. Keep it up!
